Lauren and Brett: Ucluelet, BC
Brett and I go back, waaaaaay back, we had never actually met but my parents were the ones that set up his mom and dad. Our moms were best friends and his two older brothers and I spent many a days together when we were tiny on camping trips and holidays. I recall some photographs of the three of us squished in a rubber dingy on cultus lake tethered to the shore while our moms demonstrated some classic 80’s parenting styles on the beach. So when Brett reached out to me about photographing his wedding because of our families connection I felt like we had know each other for years and once we finally met in person on his and Lauren’s wedding day that connection was tangible.
These two had a slightly unconventional wedding in the sense that they decided just to have their closest friends present, no family ( with exception to Brett’s brother Jared, who is also his best bud) not because they are’t close with their families but just because that’s how they envisioned their day, and their families totally respected that. They rented out the Big Beach Lodge in Ucluelet, BC ( a perfect house for large groups) all stayed under one roof in a stunning home right on the rugged coast line and spent a glorious, love filled weekend together, it was awesome.
It was a particularly beautiful stormy winter day, the kind of day that is iconically west coast, the ocean was raging and the sky was dark and threatening rain at any moment. Brett and Lauren chose an private little nook on the beach steps from their front door for their intimate ceremony and after the I do’s were said it was party time! This group was so fun, we had the tunes BLASTING for the duration of our shoot out side and the vibes we hilarious and joyous. Lauren is an outgoing free spirit and Brett is so easy going and mellow, they compliment each other perfectly and could not be more well suited for one another.
We stuck it out outside until the threats of rain materialized into big, fat drenching drops and we retreated back to the warmth of the house where appetizers from Solidarity Snacks awaited the group. Some games we played, some songs were sung, some lap dances may have happened and many laughs were had. I left the group just before dinner arrived and there was talks of wardrobe changes to sweat pants… my kind of party:)
